12 November 2002

The War Bride goes on general release in UK cinemas on 29 November.

05 November 2002

Anna has begun filming Watermelon, the one-off ITV comedy drama first reported here on 18th February.

16 October 2002

Filming for Timeline in Canada is long since finished and, as you may have seen in yesterday's papers, Anna is back and looking better than ever, with the welcome return of longer locks.

As happened when she visited the country for the filming of War Bride there was very little news of her in the media.  Why is that?

I felt like a change today, so have applied a new theme to the site.  Same content and same navigation, just a different look and a slightly faster download.

Speaking of site updates, I hear that there may finally be light at the end of the tunnel for the long-promised revamp of Anna's official site, which is now nearly a year overdue.  Evidently there is some beta testing going on.  Frankly I'd have settled for the old format with some updates myself, but maybe it will be worth the wait.

Any foot fetishists among you will delight in the news that Anna is auctioning both a pair of her socks and a pair of her shoes in two online charity auctions next month.

Anna has donated a pair of her size 4½s to be auctioned as part of LEPRA's "Celebrity Shoe Auction" which will start from Friday 8 November on eBay.

"Socks and the City" is a charity auction organised by Cherry Jam, Centrepoint and the Holy Cross Crisis Centre to raise money for the homeless, and Anna has donated a pair of socks to be auctioned online at Cherry Jam on Monday 18 November.

13 September 2002

Thanks are again due to Dave Campbell, who mailed through to let us know that a couple of Anna's movies are scheduled to air this month.

The UK premiere of Sunset Strip  is on SKY Premier 1 at 00:40 next Tuesday morning (17th September), while The Stringer  gets another showing on BBC4 at 22;15 on Thursday 19th.

12 July 2002

Happy 26th birthday Anna!

29 May 2002

The BBC now has a preview available for the upcoming drama Fields of Gold, which will be transmitted in two parts next weekend (8 and 9 June).

26 May 2002

Anna has been voted into 71st place in this year's UK FHM poll of the sexiest women on the planet.  Not her highest-ever placing, but up on last year's showing.

22 May 2002

Thanks yet again to David Campbell for unearthing this brief interview with Anna early on in the filming of Timeline.  Sounds like she's enjoying the bigger budget already!

02 May 2002

I'm reliably informed that the caption to the pictures I saw the other week indicating that Anna is expecting a baby (see the entry from 21 April) is incorrect.

27 April 2002

Some more details are emerging on Timeline (see the entry from 18 March), which commenced 'principal photography' on 8 April in Montreal.  Click here for the Paramount press release, and a click here will take you to the movie's unofficial fan site (blimey, they got in quick!).

Anna will star along with partner David Thewlis and Billy Connolly in what could be a breakthrough role for her.  The project is being backed to the tune of 80 million dollars by Paramount Pictures, so I assume we can expect a much more widespread release and aggressive marketing and publicity than has been the case with most of Anna's earlier movie work.  The movie is scheduled for release next summer in the US, so we should see it autumn/winter 2003.

Thanks again to David Campbell for sending through the following links to related stories at Ananova and at upcomingmovies.com

24 April 2002

Anna is currently in Los Angeles promoting Me Without You.  Here's a link to a brief interview with her from today's LA Times.

21 April 2002

While searching for recent Anna news and pictures on some of the commercial photo sites I came across the following caption to some of the images on splashnews.com:

"EXCLUSIVE
Pregnant British actress Anna Friel, famous for taking part in British soap TV's first lesbian kiss on Brookside, enjoys a cigarette and a drink with some friends in Los Angeles"

I've not seen this reported elsewhere, but Anna has mentioned her maternal instincts in many an interview so it wouldn't be the shock of the year if it's true.  But if it is of course, congratulations to David and Anna!

07 April 2002

There are reports that Anne Robinson is hawking her autobiography around Hollywood with a view to cashing in on her Weakest Link  success with a movie about her life.  As if that wasn't bad enough, she has apparently expressed the hope that Anna might be signed up to portray her during her twenties.  Here's a link to the report on Annanova, and here's the one from the Guardian site.

Now Anna could certainly do with something to take the attention away from the string of motion picture turkeys she has managed to get involved with, but the Anne Robinson story isn't it!  Don't believe a word.

18 March 2002

Anna is to play a medieval maiden in the new Richard Donner movie Timeline.

The film is based on a Michael Crichton novel about a group of student archaeologists who travel back through time to 14th-century France to rescue their professor who has become trapped in the past.

Shooting begins shortly in Montreal and Prague.

26 February 2002

Anna presented some of the minor gongs at the BAFTA awards ceremony at the weekend, so hopefully there will be a few pictures kicking around in various publications over the next week or two.  If you spot any new ones please scan them and send 'em on through.

18 February 2002

David Campbell sends through an alert to this news item from Ananova.  She is to star in a ITV adaptation of Watermelon, a romantic novel by Marain Keyes about an Irish girl who goes to England to obtain an abortion and falls in love.

As previously reported we should shortly see Anna on the Beeb in Fields of Gold, scheduled to air in "Spring 2002".

04 February 2002

By the end of next week the relaunch of Anna's official site will be two months overdue.  It's really more than a year of course since anything notable was added, but I've had my wrist slapped in the past for having the odd mild dig so we're just counting from the pre-announced date they gave of 15 December :-)

Anyways, my rummage around the other sites reveals that Dolphine seems to be getting around to his expected redesign of the Anna Friel Reference Site.  Well, he's dropped the irritating music and put up a new front page anyway one that requires the vector graphics rendering plugin for IE in order to view it properly.  I think the old boy's been in a collaboration of sorts with the chaps down at Netshopuk (Anna's Dad's web design company that doesn't her official site), so maybe his delay is tied in with theirs.  He was also toying with Flash last I heard.

While rambling on about site updates I must apologise for taking my own eyes off the ball a bit over the past few months.  All been a bit hectic out there in the real world lately I shan't bore you with the details and it has been pretty quiet on the Anna front since the (ridiculously) limited cinema release of Me Without You, so the updates here have been less regular than usual.

Looking at Dolphine's site however made me remember that I forgot (!) to mention that Anna and David are fronting the Mulberry clothing and accessories range this season.  And Anna is shortlisted for a couple of awards this week, including one this Thursday (7th) from the Canadian Film Academy (stop tittering at the back there, a gong's a gong!) for her performance in War Bride.  Click here to visit the Genie Awards web site.  [Footnote : Anna didn't 'win'.]

24 January 2002

January always brings a glut of astrologers' predictions for the year to come in magazines and newspapers.  The current issue of Heat  magazine sees their mystic mug highlight celebrity love lives, with the prediction that the couple most likely to wed this year are none other than our Anna and David.

Certainly you can't have read an interview with Anna at any time over the past 18 months without hearing how wonderfully happy they are together, how they have only spent 3 nights apart since first meeting etc. etc..

Anna has acknowledged being a bit broody for an baby for a couple of years now, and with scant news of upcoming work projects it may not be a bad bet.  Whatever, the accompanying pictures are now online.

09 January 2002

News today from Gregory Camp of another airing for The Tribe in the US.  Here's an extract from his mail:

"The Tribe" is scheduled to play on The Independent Film Channel (IFC) again!  It is scheduled to air Friday, Feb 1, 03:45 AM EST (Late Thursday Night)The Independent Film Channel is available on cable and satellite throughout the US.

Thanks Greg!
