19 December 2004

While The War Bride and Timeline continue to make regular appearances on SKY's movie channels over the next few weeks, Anna can also be seen in A Midsummer Night's Dream on UKTV Drama tonight at 9:00pm (repeated at 00:50 on Monday morning.

12 December 2004

Congratulations to Anna and boyfriend David on the news that they are expecting their first child.

Looks like 2005 might be a slow one then in career terms, and that waif-like figure and tiny, tiny tummy are in for a hard time for the next 9 months, but there couldn't be a better reason!

Here are a few links to the story, if they're still up when you're reading this . . . 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

04 December 2004

The episode of Cadfael featuring Anna gets a repeat showing today on ITV3 at 15:15.

Timeline also gets it's premier on SKY's movie channels next month, starting on SKY Movies 2 at 20:00 on Monday 10 January.

08 November 2004

I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but Anna's official site has had a minor update fairly recently it's currently giving out information that's only up to 5 months out of date!  A few pictures have also been added, 4 of which I've included in the archives here today.

You may also spot that some of my own (AFSC) scans of Anna have been included, albeit renamed, on the official site.  I guess it must be anything up to 3 years ago that they approached me for a copy of my site cd so that they could add some of the images, so that's about the right pace ;-)

07 November 2004

Pop Idol/American Idol/X-Factor multi-millionaire producer 'nasty' Simon Cowell was apparently keen on signing Anna up to his stable and marketing her as a pop star when the two met "before she found success as an actress".

According to the report at contactmusic.com, the pair fell out after he refused to market her as a serious musician, and nothing ever came of the opportunity.

I also stumbled across the site for Perfect Strangers, the CBS drama Anna made with Rob Lowe this summer in Canada (see entry below for 7 June).  It appears that it aired in the US on 17 October.  Anyone got a copy?

02 November 2004

Those of you with SKY digital have plenty of opportunities right through to the end of the year to catch Anna in The War Bride there are no less than 16 showings between 10th November and 29th December on SKY Movies 3,5,7 and 9.  That's assuming you missed the 14 showings in July of course!

Our Mutual Friend, the BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens' final novel, is also in the middle of a run right now on Artsworld (channel 157), with a repeat starting on Saturday 13th November at 8:00pm.

26 October 2004

Anna presented the 'favourite actor' award at the 2004 TV Awards ceremony tonight.  A small clip has been posted to the same newsgroup as last month (see below).

26 September 2004

I've just posted the two svcd-compatible mpegs from The Tribe to the usenet newsgroup alt.binaries.videos.tv.shaggable-babes.

Don't worry if your ISP's news feed is pants, here's a way to download them free of charge from a professional usenet service.

Giganews provides the best service I know of, with unrivalled article completeness of over 99.5% and post retention of 50 days in the binary groups, and 420 days for text/discussion groups.  They offer a range of subscription accounts depending on your monthly usage, but if you follow this link you can take advantage of a free 5-day/1.5Gb trial period, during which you can grab the Anna videos and tons of anything else you fancy.  Then simply cancel your account with them anytime before the time/usage period expires and you'll pay absolutely nothing!  I've done it myself, and can confirm that you will not be charged provided you keep within the 5-day/1.5Gb restriction.

And who knows, once you've seen a decent news feed in action you might even think it's worth subscribing to permanently!

21 September 2004

There's an interview with Anna on the Times web site in which she reminisces about her time in New York, and the escape it provided from the unwelcome tabloid attention on her private life.  Here's an extract . . .

"I left Brookside in 1995, but it seemed like nobody would allow me to let go. That's all everybody wanted to talk about. The lesbian kiss. That one bloody scene. I'd lie awake at night thinking: "That's it. That's all I'm ever going to be. The lesbian girl from Brookside."

The fact that my private life was being splashed all over the front pages didn't do much for my state of mind, either.  For about two or three years, I turned into tabloid fodder. People poking their noses into every detail of my life, from who I was supposed to be shagging to who I was supposed to be out getting drunk with. It was total embarrassment and humiliation.
I'd been betrayed. I was lost and worrying about what was happening to my career.

I decided that I needed to get away, meet some different people. I probably needed to get out of London — to get as far away from this picture of myself as I could. So I went to live in New York for nine months.  For the first time since I'd been at school, I was totally free. Nobody in New York had the faintest idea who I was. Nobody knew about Brookside. I was taken at face value, and it was wonderful."

22 July 2004

Anna, in her Brookie role of Beth Jordache, has recently been voted the sexiest soap star ever in a poll conducted by the Radio Times.  See the story here.

10 July 2004

Those of you with more money than taste in movies may want to waste some of it on SKY Box Office from this coming Wednesday, where Anna's most recent movie Timeline can be seen.

By contrast her appearance in The Jury on US TV appears to be receiving critical acclaim, as the following story from The Star newspaper testifies . . .

Anna Friel.  Er, famous for that lesbian kiss in Brookside nearly ten years ago and for lame 3 mobile phone adverts, has cracked the US.  Hurrah!

The 27-year-old has made her US TV debut in the new legal drama The Jury and received rave reviews from the critics.  Breezier moments came whenever Brit import Anna Friel is on screen," gushed Entertainment Weekly.  "The actress exudes such exasperated warmth she can blurt lines like, 'Lord, save me from crying mothers!' in the wake of a grieving mom's testimony and not sound remotely bitch-lawyer callous."

Perhaps you have to see it to believe it.

Friel is keen to follow in the successful footsteps of her Brit boyf, actor David Thewlis, who has scored fame with roles in The Big Lebowski and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.  Friel has tried her best, starring in low-key films such as Me Without You and Rogue Trader with Ewan McGregor, but has failed to hit the big-time so far.  But now, according to the Express, Friel has "been tipped for great things Stateside".

The Jury is a hit with viewers because it invites them to text in their own verdict, which is revealed just before the actual verdict is announced.  Genius. Taking people's money so they can guess the verdict even if it's not the right one and they don't win anything!  It's bound to be a roaring success.

01 July 2004

There are no less than 14 opportunities to catch Anna in the TV schedules for this month, though 13 of them are further showings of The War Bride on SKY Movies 1, 3, 7 and 9.  I won't bore you with the full list, just check your TV guide.

BBC4 are re-showing The Stringer on Sunday 4th July at 11:00pm.

08 June 2004

Hot on the heels of yesterday's news we are indebted to Andrew Glazebrook for this link to another new project.

Anna is apparently in "final" negotiations to appear with Steve Buscemi, Paul Rudd, Malcolm McDowell and others in a dark comedy entitled Cordless, described as a ". . . tale of spiritual rebirth in contemporary New York. The film follows Friel and Rudd, a young couple struggling to conceive a child in a Manhattan apartment building in which the concept of neighborly love veers toward voyeurism"

The movie is scheduled to be shot in New York towards the end of the summer.

07 June 2004

As seems to happen fairly regularly for some reason, Anna once again has been lured back to Canada.

This time it's to Toronto where she is making a TV movie opposite Rob Lowe called Perfect Strangers for the US network CBS.  Shooting starts tomorrow, and continues through to the end of this month.

Many thanks to Abigale for letting us know, and for passing on the links.

03 June 2004

Following on from the news item here back on 17th February, the first episode of The Jury airs on the Fox TV network next Tuesday (8th June).  See here for more and thanks to Sai Wong for the links!

Now if some kind soul from across the pond could put together a few decent caps and mail them on to me, I'm sure we'd all be very appreciative!

25 May 2004

Anna has missed out on the role of the new Doctor Who assistant.

I wouldn't argue strongly against the successful Billie Piper, but it's a shame watching Anna won't become a regular TV feature for this winter.

13 May 2004

One more TV appearance has been added.  BBC2 are showing All For Love (aka St. Ives) on Saturday 22nd May at 17:20.

03 May 2004

Anna has no TV appearances scheduled for this month.

The next dates for your diary are Thursday 17th and Wednesday 30th June, when SKY Movies 1 will be showing The War Bride at 8:00pm.

02 May 2004

It Appears that Anna is in the running for the role of Dr Who's assistant in the forthcoming relaunch of the series.  I'm told that three actresses are under consideration, but haven't heard who the other two are.

10 April 2004

I've had a few e-mails from users who rely on their ISP to provide their news feed and who are suffering from groups not being carried, articles missing, posts coming through incomplete and so on.  This is frustrating, though not surprising.  Usenet provision is not a strong point of the vast majority of ISPs because of the huge data storage requirements involved, especially in the binaries hierarchy.

As the first ('evolution') and third ('shoes') ads have been reposted to alt.binaries.videos.tv.shaggable-babes today, now seems an opportune time to point those of you in this situation to a way of getting these files from a professional usenet news provider without having to pay for the service.

Giganews is one such provider, offering a range of accounts depending on your monthly usage.  Fortunately they also offer a free 5-day trial, during which you can use their service fully and download up to 1.5 gigabytes of data before your account is charged.

So, all you need to do is join up via this link, grab the Anna videos and tons of anything else you fancy, then cancel anytime before the 5-day period expires.  I've done it myself, and can confirm that you will not be charged, provided you keep within the 5-day/1.5Gb restriction.  And who knows?  Once you've seen a decent news feed in action, you might even think it's worth subscribing!

03 April 2004

There is now a fourth ad in the '3' cellular network series.  As usual, a copy of this is now available on the site cd and has been posted to the usenet newsgroup alt.binaries.videos.tv.shaggable-babes today.

01 April 2004

I've replaced the 3Mb .avi of the latest 3 network ad (the shoes one) with a 9Mb svcd mpeg version.  I'll post a copy of this to the usenet newsgroup alt.binaries.videos.tv.shaggable-babes today.

There are also two more showings of Me Without You on SKY Movies 1 to tell you about this month.  You can catch it on Friday 16th at 01:15am, or on Tuesday 27th at 01:55am.  I'm not aware of any other upcoming appearances, but if any appear in the schedules I'll record them here.

15 March 2004

The third advert that Anna has done for the 3 network has now been added to the site cd.

10 March 2004

And now a third ad in the series is screening.  No copy of the video here yet, but it won't be long.

27 February 2004

A second ad featuring Anna, this time for the 3 network's PAYG service, has been airing this week.  Wonder how many are in the series?

As with the first ad, an .avi file has been posted to usenet and is available on the site cd.

23 February 2004

Anna's TV appearances in March are now confirmed.  The movie Me Without You is again playing several times, this time all at reasonable hours on SKY Movies 9.  Dates/times are:-

21:30 on 06 March (Saturday)
20:00 on 22 March (Monday) and
20:00 on 30 March (Tuesday)

You can also catch repeats of VH1's 100 Greatest Icons, hosted by Anna, on Sunday 7 March from 17:00 and on Thursday 25 March from 20:00.

19 February 2004

The commercial that Anna has done for mobile network 3 has been reposted in higher quality to the usenet newsgroup alt.binaries.videos.tv.shaggable-babes.  Look for the subject header 'anna friel commercial higher res complete (01/20)', or get it on the site cd.

17 February 2004

Thanks to Tim Dunleavy for forwarding this link, which reveals that Anna has been cast as a young, hot New York defence attorney in a Fox TV show in the USA called The Jury.  Production began last week, so after several months' break it looks like things are about to get a whole lot busier!

Provided it doesn't get canned for poor ratings after the initial production run of 5 episodes, it may well be the sort of thing that SKY1 would be tempted to import.  If not, I need to hear from anyone Stateside who can produce svcd-format mpegs when the show airs, and either upload them to an appropriate usenet binaries group or send them to me on cd/DVD.  If you'd like to help, my mail address is at the foot of the site cd ordering page.

16 February 2004

Anna's first TV ad for the mobile network 3 is airing now, and ads are appearing across the media.  If you want a copy of it you'll be pleased to find that a 3Mb .avi video capture of the ad has been posted today to the usenet newsgroup alt.binaries.tv.shaggable.babes with the subject header of 'anna friel tv commercial'.

A copy of this video is also, of course, available on the site cd.

05 February 2004

Anna's movie Me Without You is showing several times on SKY Movies 3 this month, though it's hardly peak time viewing.  Set your video/Tivo/SKY+ for:

00:10 on 09 February
02:00 on 15 February
01:15 on 20 February
00:40 on 28 February

Don't worry if you manage to miss it, as it's on at least 3 times on SKY Movies 9 next month too, this time with start times of 8 and 9:30 pm.  A full list of the dates and times will be given here in March.

06 January 2004

Anna has been signed up by mobile phone company 3 to front their latest marketing campaign.

01 January 2004

Happy New Year!  Anyone see Timeline?  No?  Nor did I.
